Fern NYC
Sustainably sourced lumber, vegetable-tanned leather, and hand-finished metals help Fern NYC stand out among the crowd. Founded in 2009 by Jason Roskey and Maggie Goudsmit, Fern has since perpetuated the Hudson area’s furniture-making tradition with handcrafted, small batch furniture. The Fern NYC collection is small but powerful, and harnesses a variety of techniques to create a truly signature collection. We have been relying on Fern since we started Elaine Santos Design and we love, love, love working with them!
Neven and Neven Moderne
A bit of a cabinet of curiosities, Neven and Neven Moderne curates a truly extraordinary collection of iconic and unique furniture. Primarily focusing on Mid-Century Modern aesthetics, the Neven and Neven Moderne storefront and Instagram are magical places to browse.
Les Indinnes
Relying on the skilled hands of Srinivas—a craftsman in India preserving and growing the ancient all natural, hand-printing art of kalamkari—Les Indinnes designs and produces the most eco-friendly and breathtakingly beautiful organic cotton textiles. Now employing multiple families, the Les Indinnes process has not changed, maintaining the quality of the fabrics as well as preserving their zero-impact production process. The Les Indinnes store is enchantingly beautiful—you’ll want to stay there for hours!
Gestalt
Gestalt founders, Adrian Pollack and Karolina Dabo, put their 40 years of expertise to work in curating the Gestalt collection. Focusing on each individual piece and treating every aspect, down to the last detail, as respectfully as they do the overall aesthetic of the brand, Gestalt brings vision to life. From furniture and lighting, to decor and rugs, the Gestalt collection—which can be found online and in their Hudson showroom—pulls from the modern design genius of brands like Eberhart, Klassik Studio, Linie Rugs, Skovgaard Jensen.
Dine
Culture Cream
Blending the worlds of ice cream and kombucha, Culture Cream puts your taste buds to the test and challenges everything you thought you knew about desserts and fermented beverages. Founder, Katiushka Melo, can easily be called an artist, expertly hand making the variety of unique, living ice cream flavors. Plus, you’ll want to spend lots of time in the colorful ice cream parlor!
Le Perche
A French bakery and bar, Le Perche has a farm-to-plate policy which utilizes local ingredients to create delicious breakfast staples. The menu at Le Perche is small, but makes it a great place to brunch, enjoying their wood-burning oven delights such as Tivoli Mushroom Toast, Duck Confit Hash, and Le Perche Croque Madame.
Lil’ Deb’s Oasis
At Lil’ Deb’s Oasis the motto is: Seeing is Believing, Tasting is Truth. This truly unique eatery is a whole experience, from the food to the environment, to their slightly unorthodox approach to catering, coordinating, and designing memorable events.
Wm. Farmer and Sons
Bridging the gap between dining and staying is Wm. Farmer and Sons. Offering a high-end, luxury eating and hotel experience, Wm. Farmer and Sons works with local farms for seasonal and fresh ingredients while maintaining the history and charm of the building itself, all to create a welcoming place for you to sit, relax, and stay.
Stay
The Maker Hotel
Rooted in the luxurious environs of their Hudson hotel location, The Maker brand has expanded into the realms of bespoke fragrances, gifts, and more. The hotel itself is a wonder to behold, welcoming you into the lap of complete leisure and extravagance. Blending multiple design eras into flawlessly curated bedrooms, dining rooms, and lounge areas, The Maker hotel wraps guests in a warm hospitality, inviting you to indulge, enjoy, and stay awhile.
The Amelia Hotel
The Amelia Hotel is a fresh, modern, and imaginative escape from the noisy world. Nestled into a Queen Anne-style home, the restored building features many old-world charms while embracing a more contemporary design aesthetic that immediately sets your mind at ease in an environment of quiet luxury. Offering porch areas, an English garden, a pool, a library, and all the amenities, The Amelia Hotel is the perfect place to find alone time or gather to celebrate the little things.
While this is not, by any means, complete, I hope this peek into the Hudson Valley area of New York has you inspired, in love, and ready to explore this wonderful area I often roam.
