Five Pieces That Create Luxury in Modern Homes

Working in older houses gives me the unique opportunity to compose spaces that juxtapose different styles, trends, and eras. For many, this means blending the old with the new, and the rustic with the luxurious. Blending architectural styles with art and design aesthetics from a variety of specialties and eras offers the opportunity to create unique, refreshing rooms infused with a character all their own. As I go from project to project, I love the chance to pick and choose luxurious pieces that infuse a richness that elevates the everyday. So whether you’re looking for a little Old Hollywood, Art Deco, or simply an exquisite conversation piece, there’s always a way to infuse a touch of luxury into your modern home.

Diamond Mirror

This corner of the house called for visual intrigue. From the square podium, to the round table and chairs, to the organic curves of the flowers, to the diamond mirror, harmony and consonance were created through the various shapes and the complementary shine from the mirror and metallic accents.

Glass Pendant

Subtle in its general appearance, glass adds shimmer and shine and lightness everywhere it goes. This pendant creates visual nuance while being elegant and understated.

Curved Velvet Sofa

Luxury is often found in the unusual. When you think outside the box and introduce unique shapes, sumptuous fabrics, and even the unexpected placement, luxury is created with very little effort. The curved, velvet sofa has become a bit of an icon with its luxury and movement and soft but bold expression.

Gold Sculptural Pieces

Elements like these don’t let you forget them quickly and create artistic intrigue in a way that supersedes traditional decorative art. Easily integrate unique shapes, themes, and atmosphere with rich, luxurious gold-tones.

Collected figurative artwork

The exploration and recreation of the human face and form has a place in every art genre. Including figurative artwork in your space not only infuses the space with a touch of natural beauty and organic expression, but the use of figurative art specifically adds a curated quality to the art in your home; giving the impression of being less generic and more purposeful. Figurative art can come in the form of a pencil sketch from Louise Nevelson, a layer painting by artist Mickalene Thomas, or a specially commissioned piece from your favorite local artist.
