Gallery Spotlight: Timothy Taylor & Daniel Crews-Chubb
the esd journal
the Timothy Taylor Gallery
For nearly thirty years Timothy Taylor has been spotlighting art that engages the viewer and creator in the “art-historical tradition.” A champion for artists who play with bold color, multi-media abstracts, figurative reimaginings, and visual feasts of technique, the Timothy Taylor gallery has been a fixture in the debut of artists like Sahara Longe and Jiab Prachakul. Over its decades of curation, the Timothy Taylor Gallery has proudly exhibited the work of renowned modern visionaries like Victor Willing, Antoni Tàpies, and Timothy Taylor, showing the world the range of artistic prowess made possible by experimentation, careful study, and the masterful use of varied techniques.
Today, Timothy Taylor’s intergenerational collection can be viewed in the London and New York galleries, as well as the gallery-sponsored art fairs, institutional and pop-up exhibitions, and other presentations around the world.
About Daniel Crews-Chubb
Though there is a lot to love about all the artists featured in Timothy Taylor’s exhibitions, I have a special appreciation and love for Daniel Crews-Chubb. A London-based painter, Crews-Chubb’s work embodies a figurative expression which, at the same time, has an abstract foundation that I love. His use of color mixed with subtle figure drawings captures your attention and makes each painting new every time you view it.
Using the human condition as his inspiration, Crews-Chubb has an improvisational approach to a multi-disciplinary and multi-media technique that channels artists who set the tone for modern and abstract expressionism. You can easily see the historical inspirations in Crews-Chubb’s work while observing the contemporary innovations he brings to the practice.
The interplay between art and design is an ever-expanding world in which I am happy to participate. Galleries like Timothy Taylor and artists like Daniel Crews-Chubb allow contemporary art to flourish, making it approachable to designers like me as well as the clients I serve.
